Sauger and walleye hold below the dam early, then bass as it warms. The bluffs green up from the bottom. Rooms are easiest to get now.

Everything is open and the river is busy. Panfish and bass, pontoons and tubing, and light on the deck until nine. This season books first — if you want a specific weekend, ask early.

Sep – Nov

The bluffs turn and the flyway fills with birds.

The Mississippi flyway is one of the great migration corridors in North America and it runs straight past the deck. Cooler fishing, no crowds, and the Great River Road at its best.

Snow on the bluffs

Quiet in a way the rest of the year never is. Eagles work the open water below the dam all winter, and Highway 35 with snow on the bluffs is worth the drive on its own.
